WalkBike Worcester urges voters to Vote No on Question 1 for a safer city. We must continue with overdue improvements to our roads, bridges and public transportation network to make getting around Worcester safe and convenient for all.
Gas Tax indexing will cost most drivers $5 or less per year, and gas tax revenue is dedicated for transportation by the state constitution. WalkBike Worcester stands with the Greater Worcester Chamber of Commerce, the Mass Public Health Association, AAA Southern New England, the Massachusetts Sierra Club and many other organizations in opposing Question 1.

Have you ever wanted to ride your bike while decked out in your favorite Halloween costume? Take part in our 12-mile community ride the Sunday before Halloween and visit some of the city’s best-known cemeteries. Costumes welcome and encouraged but not required (please make a helmet part of your costume). Meet at Elm Park at the stone gates at 1pm. Brooms acceptable but bikes preferred. Need more information? Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tomorrow we’ll be at the Art+Market event of the Worcester Art Museum 10am-2pm. Each week July 12 -Sept 20 WAM hosts a variety of farm vendors, art vendors, cultural organizations/groups, and live music. At our booth WBW will introduce visitors to technology tools like WalkScore, MapMyWalk and the WRTA bus tracker and offer an opportunity to record thoughts about walking and biking in Worcester. We’ll do brief walkabouts at 11:00 and 12:30 to introduce walkability concepts and stimulate thinking about the Main St transportation project. Art+Market happens inside the parking lot of Trinity Lutheran Church at 73 Lancaster Street.
WalkBike Worcester is organizing the city’s first observance of PARK(ing) Day, an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. We’ll have 5 adjacent spots on Main Street near Theatre Cafe, which will host one of the spots. Come down and be part of the fun!
Meet behind City Hall by 3:50. See the route above if you need to catch up along the way.
Come on over to the Faculty Lounge (main campus, Sullivan 310) at Worcester State tomorrow 6-7:30pm.
On the agenda are an update on PARK(ing) Day plans and an invitation to partner with Worcester Art Museum on art + market also in September.
We hope to see you tomorrow, Wednesday June 18 6-7:30pm for our monthly WalkBike Worcester meeting. We’ll be at Worcester State in the Faculty Lounge, which is in the Sullivan Academic Center. Many thanks to our hosts!
The focus will be on upcoming walking and biking events we’re planning plus the Longsjo bike race on June 28. We’ve committed to tabling at the family fun fair in the afternoon before the race and need some helpers.
